Differences Between Ball Valve and Butterfly Valve
The biggest difference between the ball valve and the butterfly valve is that the opening and closing parts of the butterfly valve are a plate, while the ball valve is a ball.
Characteristics of Butterfly Valve:
1. Simple structure, low consumption and low cost, but poor tightness and bearing capacity;
2. Quick opening and closing, small flow resistance;
3. It is suitable for making large diameter valves;
4. In the cylindrical channel of the butterfly valve body, the disc shaped butterfly plate rotates around the axis with a rotation angle of 0 °~90 °. When the rotation angle reaches 90 °, the valve is fully open;
5. It can be used for media with suspended solid particles, and can also be used for powder and granular media according to the strength of its sealing surface;
6. It can be applied to the two-way opening and closing and adjustment of ventilation and dust removal pipelines, and is widely used in the gas pipelines and waterways of metallurgy, light industry, electric power and petrochemical systems.
Characteristics of Ball Valve:
1. Limited by volume and opening and closing resistance, it is difficult to achieve large caliber;
2. It is generally applicable to liquids and gases without particulate impurities;
3. Small fluid pressure loss, better sealing performance than butterfly valve, and high cost;
4. The sealing of ball valves is usually made of flexible materials, which is difficult to be used in high-temperature and high-pressure pipelines;
5. It can be reliably applied to corrosive medium and low boiling point liquid without being stuck during operation;
6. It can realize fast opening and closing without impact during operation;
7. When fully open and fully closed, the sealing surfaces of the ball and valve seat are isolated from the medium, so the medium passing through the valve at high speed will not erode the sealing surface;
8. Compact structure, reliable sealing. It can be used in low-temperature medium system.
